John Russell John Russell is a founding partner of the law firm McCoy Russell LLP , based in Portland, OR.  John obtained his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from The Ohio State University and began his career as an engineer at Ford Motor Company, where he implemented feedback control systems and signal processing techniques before transitioning to the intellectual property department at Ford.  John also received a Master of Science in Engineering from University of California at Berkeley, where he worked in the bio-informatics and haptic interface space.  John received his J.D. from the University of Michigan and is a named inventor on more than a 170 U.S. patents to date.  At McCoy Russell, John represents clients in a variety of patent and trademark matters.


Anna McCoy Anna McCoy is a founding partner of McCoy Russell LLP , an intellectual property law firm based in Portland, OR. She began her career at an IP boutique firm, and has been a partner at McCoy Russell (formerly Alleman Hall McCoy Russell & Tuttle) for thirteen years. Anna earned her J.D. at Lewis & Clark Law School, where she graduated with honors with a General Business Law Certificate and was a member of the Journal of Small and Emerging Business Law. Before that, she earned a B.A. in Chemistry at Reed College and completed graduate work at Oregon Health Science University in pharmacology and physiology. At McCoy Russell, Anna represents clients in all aspects of patent and trademark matters, including licensing and managing patent and trademark portfolios, patentability studies, trademark use and registration studies, patent non-infringement and invalidity studies, and preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications before the USPTO. She has drafted and prosecuted patents in a broad range of technical fields.


Jennifer Johnson Jennifer Johnson is a technical specialist at McCoy Russell LLP , based in Portland, OR.  Jennifer has a Ph.D. in medical genetics from Oregon Health Sciences University, where she studied DNA repair.  Jennifer has nearly seven years of experience working on intellectual property matters related to technological advances in the medical industry, such as advances related to medical imaging.  In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys keeping up with the latest medical and scientific research and engaging all around her in passionate discussions about science and health.

Janina Malone Janina Malone is an attorney at McCoy Russell LLP  and assists companies and institutions develop and manage their patent portfolios. While primarily focusing on biotechnology, she has experience in molecular and cellular biology, bioinformatics, immunology, cell signaling, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, genomics, medical devices, mechanical devices, proteomics, biosensors, computer science and software. She is also a self-described  unabashed science geek with a healthy dose of wanderlust.




Katie Tallman Katie Tallman is a technical specialist at McCoy Russell LLP . She has a Ph.D. from the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, Program in Chemical Biology at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, OR. She specializes in microbiology, small molecule synthesis, flourescence, spectroscopy, and pharmacology.
